THAT DAY

The Doors at Felt Forum NY, January 17 & 18, 1970

On January 17 and 18, 1970, the Doors performed at the Felt Forum in New York. This date marks the launch of the Roadhouse Blues Tour (The Morrison Hotel album will be released a few weeks later). It's also the last time the four of them will play in New York.

The Felt Forum is a 5,000-seat performance hall located in the basement of Madison Square Garden. The Doors preferred that year to give 4 concerts over 2 days in this room with excellent acoustics rather than performing at the MSG in front of 20,000 people with a more dubious sound and artistic rendering! It must be said that the 4 concerts are recorded for the Live Album "Absolutely Live".

The 4 performances are excellent and powerful, mixing tracks from the beginnings, tracks from Morrison Hotel and a few covers with guests like John B Sebastian (Lovin Spoonful) and Dallas Taylor (Crosby Stills and Nash).

These 4 concerts are grouped together in an excellent CD box "Live In New York" published by Rhino Handmade and Bright Midnight. A double vinyl also exists but concerns only the first show of January 17th.
