The album contains recordings of songs performed between July 1969 and May 1970 in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Detroit (as well as some dialogue from a show in Pittsburgh).

Unlike most live rock albums, this one contains no overdubs or re-recordings. However, it was created from cuts on different takes, accumulating collage on collage and then forming a hybrid rendering giving a kind of hypothetical concert...
