DID YOU KNOW ?

The doors are slamming, the trial of John Densmore

In 2014, John Densmore, original drummer and co-founder of The Doors, published a book titled: "The Doors, the doors are slamming: The tumultuous legacy of Jim Morrison."

In this book, he retraces a six-year long legal battle, opposing him to his former partners and friends, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. A battle that he will eventually win but at the cost of many critics accusing him of wanting to undermine the group's heritage.

For Densmore, this trial is actually a gesture of protest against his former comrades in order to save the memory of Jim Morrison and the image of the legendary group. Indeed since 2002, Manzarek and Krieger organized many concerts using the name and logo of The Doors (The Doors of the 21st Century). John Densmore had then declared that the Doors could no longer be without the presence of the charismatic singer, Jim Morrison and that of the original Drummer.

Joined by Jim's family in his fight, Densmore will finally obtain the prohibition for his former comrades to use the name The Doors.

Despite this legal confrontation, when Ray Manzarek died in May 2013, John Densmore and Robby Krieger reconnected by even organizing a tribute concert to their late keyboardist.

Today, John Densmore's book is available from the publisher Le Mot Et Le Reste for €25:
