Mr. Morrison also had this epitaph added in Ancient Greek: "ΚΑΤΑ ΤΟΝ ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ ΕΑΥΤΟΥ": "Faithful to his own demon".

This sentence is then truly the subject of a double meaning, the word "demon" originally having no negative meaning, the latter meaning rather "Spirit", "Consciousness", the sentence in question being able to be understood rather like this: "True to himself".  
 

However Jim being a follower of a life of excess, the alcoholism and addiction to hallucinogenic drugs from which he suffered could be the demon which caused his downfall.
