Jim Morrison pardoned, December 9, 2010
On December 9, 2010, 40 years after the charges against him, Jim Morrison received a posthumous pardon offered unanimously by the four members of the Florida Pardons Committee at the initiative of outgoing Governor Charlie Crist.
The famous singer of the Doors had been prosecuted in his native state in 1969, for indecency, exhibitionism, contempt of good morals and public drunkenness following a concert given on March 1 at the Miami Dinner Key auditorium. controversial for lack of evidence.
Morrison had been sentenced at first instance to six months in detention and to pay the sum of $500 but had appealed the sentence, before flying to Paris where he died in July 1971 at the age of 27.
Governor Charlie Crist explained on the subject in a press release stating: "When death prevents the accused from appealing a judgment, the conviction is declared void".
