THAT DAY

The Doors give 2 concerts in 2 different states, August 18, 1967
On August 18, 1967, The Doors gave two concerts in two different states...
The first concert was held at the Annapolis National Guard Armory in Annapolis, Maryland. The second concert took place 40 miles away (about 65 kms) at the Alexandria Roller Rink Arena in Alexandria, Virginia.
It was the one and only time Jim Morrison performed in Alexandria, the city where he graduated from George Washington High School in 1961.
If this double programming surprises you, know that it was customary in the 1960s for artists to give two performances in the same day, one in the afternoon or early in the evening and the second a little later, At nightfall.
In this photo, the Doors pose after their Alexandria concert with disc jockey Jack Alix (holding a copy of GO Magazine between his teeth), members of the Blades of Grass and the Jackettes Go-Go Girls are also present.
