THAT DAY

Death of Pamela Courson, April 25, 1974

On April 25, 1974, Pamela "Pam" Susan Courson was found dead in a Los Angeles apartment she shared with two young men.

Famous for having been the companion of Jim Morrison from 1966 to the death of the latter in July 1971, Pamela suffered from depression since this tragic event, sinking more and more into melancholy and addiction to hard drugs.

Since her return from Paris where she lost Morrison, she was full of grief and kept repeating that she would join Jim soon... She succumbed to a heroin overdose on April 25, 1974,

taking with it the many mysteries surrounding Morrison's death in Paris.

Before her death, Jim had named her sole heiress and had dedicated all of her poems to her. Pamela played an important role in sorting through her companion's writings and pushing Morrison to have them published. Moreover, she did not hesitate to take a position so that this one leaves the DOORS, in order to be truly recognized as a poet.

Pamela is not alongside Jim Morrison in Paris. His ashes lie in fact at Fairheaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California. Although Jim and she were not married, on her tombstone is the name: Pamela Susan Morrison...
