MYTHICAL PLACES

The Bar Alexandre, 53, Avenue George V - 75008, Paris

Jim Morrison discovers the Bar Alexandre as soon as he arrives in Paris, when he leaves his luggage at the George V hotel on March 11, 1971, he will wait there for his partner Pamela Courson for a drink...

The Bar Alexandre, located in the 8th arrondissement, quickly became one of Morrison's favorite places in the capital. It is said that he leaves substantial tips there in order to stifle the repeated scandals when he is drunk, that he likes to order bottles of white wine there and finally that he sometimes spends several hours, sobering up on a bench near the troquet.

It was on the terrace of the Bar Alexandre that Jim took Gilles Yepremian, Hervé Muller and his partner at the time for lunch, one day in May 1971, to thank them for having lodged him for the night when he was found drunk by this same Gilles Yepremian, the day before on the public highway (a story which Gilles, whom we salute, never ceases to tell and which serves as a rather rare testimony to Morrison's Parisian life). The few photos visible below showing Jim at Bar Alexandre date from that day and are credited to Gilles Yepremian and Hervé Muller.

Today, the Bar Alexandre no longer exists. Neither him nor the famous bench where Jim supposedly used to lie. The set has given way to a boutique of a famous luxury brand.
