MYTHICAL PLACES

Chateau de Chambord - 41250, Chambord, France

A year before his death in Paris, Jim Morrison had already visited France...

Indeed, Morrison who had studied cinema in Los Angeles before the formation of DOORS, had become friends in the United States with the French filmmaker Agnès Varda, then companion of the no less famous director Jacques Demy.

Thus in June 1970, Jim and Alain Ronay, a common friend of the Morrison-Courson couple and Varda went to the filming of "Donkey Skin" by Jacques Demy at the Château de Chambord in the Loir-et-Cher. A true architectural symbol of the Renaissance and residence of François 1er, its construction began in 1519, it is the most imposing of the Loire castles and has a famous double spiral staircase as well as magnificent French gardens.

Jim, lying in the grass, signs a few autographs and then observes the parade of exotic animals and extras for a banquet scene, all of them decked out in a more extravagant costume than the other.

Of course, today, the castle is still standing, it is part of the national domain of Chambord, classified many times, it can be visited all year round (except December 25 and January 1) for a price of about 15€ (Castle + Garden)...
